Soldier's Shields are mid-grade Shield known to have once been used by the guards of Hyrule Castle.[1] They belong to the Soldier's Gear equipment archetype, a series of Weapons intended for soldiers of Hyrule Kingdom.[3] They boast a moderately high defense rating as well as a decent durability. They can be found almost anywhere throughout Hyrule Kingdom, though an easy spot is Snowfield Stable on the Tabantha Tundra.
A Soldier's Shield is sold by Russ on Trilby Plain for 100 Rupees.[4] When Link buys it, Russ calls him a bona fide Shield Surfer, and he then shares the legend of Selmie.[5] Selmie also gives Link a Soldier's Shield for completing the Shield-Surfing Mini-Game with a time between 2:00 and 2:15.[6]
The following amiibo have a chance to spawn a Treasure Chest containing a Soldier's Shield when they are scanned with the amiibo Rune:
- Super Smash Bros. Series Link amiibo
- The Legend of Zelda series Series Link (The Legend of Zelda) amiibo
- The Legend of Zelda Series Toon Zelda (The Wind Waker) amiibo
- The Legend of Zelda Series Link (Twilight Princess) amiibo
- The Legend of Zelda Series Link (Skyward Sword) amiibo
- Breath of the Wild Series Zelda amiibo
- Breath of the Wild Series Urbosa amiibo
Despite their appearance, Soldier's Shields have a core made of wood, and therefore can burn when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate.[1] In addition, the Magnesis Rune will not work on them, and they cannot conduct Electricity or attract Lightning during Thunderstorms. Finally, they will float if they are dropped in Water.

The soldier's shield? A reliable choice for combat or the slopes, sure. How's about 100 rupees?

Thanks, my man! Now you're a bona fide shield surfer! By the way, have ya heard about the legend? Pretty epic. The legend of the shield-surfing world is Selmie! When Selmie boarded a shield, nothin' could stand in her way. Everybody who saw her tear it up was practically hypnotized! That's raw skill, man. She retired young and became a living legend. They say she settled down in the Hebra Mountains to the northwest. If you're serious about shield surfing, maybe you should track her down. Actually, lots of folks have tried to meet her...and they all ran into trouble along the way.
