Location and Uses

Telephones are devices that Link can use to call Old Man Ulrira, who will provide him with various hints on how to proceed on his quest.[3] They can be found within Telephone Booths and inside Old Man Ulrira's House. If Link makes a call from the Telephone inside of Old Man Ulrira's House, it dials the number of someone calling themself the Bucket Mouse.[4] After they hang up, a message appears saying that Link must have dialed the wrong number.[5]

Trivia

  • In the French versions of Link's Awakening and Link's Awakening DX, the Telephone in Old Man Ulrira's House calls Madonna.[6] She answers in French with an English accent. In the German version, the person calling fills out a meal order for a pizzeria, "Da Mario".[7] Both dialogues replace the Bucket Mouse.
  • In the Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Dutch, Canadian French, European French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, and European Spanish versions, the Bucket Mouse is replaced with a person who tells Link that he called the Nintendo Gallery.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] The two French versions and the German version make a further reference where the person asks Link if he has any Pictographs to share with them, similar to Carlov from The Wind Waker.
    • The Korean version refers to the Nintendo gallery simply as "a gallery",[18] and the Russian version replaces dialogues with an incoming call from someone who mistook that they called a pizzeria.[19]
