Biography

Breath of the Wild

Maypin is a Hylian Merchant who specializes in selling Insects.[3] He travels from the gateway near Koukot Plateau to and the Gerudo Desert Gateway, stopping at Gerudo Canyon Stable along the way. Maypin wields a Traveler's Sword and a Wooden Shield, and he is always seen with his Donkey.

When Maypin reaches one of the endpoints of the path he takes, he will stop for a moment to investigate the road ahead. Near Koukot Plateau, he states that the Monsters ahead are too dangerous to risk.[4][5] At the Gerudo Desert Gateway, he claims that the Sand from the Gerudo Desert is difficult for him and his Donkey to traverse, so he has no choice but to turn back.[6] As he walks away from the Gateway, he also reveals that there is too much competition for him at the Kara Kara Bazaar for it to be worth the trip.[7] Despite this, he is interested in making sales in the Gerudo Desert, but he has yet to find a pack Animal that will not get stuck in the Sand.[8]

Maypin is knowledgeable about Elixirs that can be made with Insects, especially those that make journeying through the Gerudo Desert easier.[9][10] He will inform Link that these Elixirs can be made with only Insects and Monster Parts.[11][12][13] Should Link's plans include a trip into the Gerudo Desert, Maypin tells him to prepare Spicy Elixirs and Chilly Elixirs.[14][15][16][17] Due to the Heat during the day and the Freezing Climate at night, Maypin believes only Gerudo women would be prepared for both.[18][19] He suggests using Chilly Elixirs for traversing the Gerudo Desert during the day, but a Spicy Elixir is the better choice for the nighttime.[20] Should Link only have the supplies to make one Elixir, Maypin states that it should be a Chilly Elixir, since the Heat in the Gerudo Desert is worse than the cold Temperature at night.[21]

If Maypin encounters Enemies while he is traveling, he will run away in fear.[22][23] After Link defeats the Enemy, he will be relieved.[24][25] Afterwards, Maypin may thank compliment Link's fighting ability.[26] He also has a chance to express concern for his Donkey and the cargo it carries.[27] For saving him, Maypin will give Link Enduring Veggie Rice Balls or Rupees as a reward.[28]

As Maypin walks, he will advertise his Insects to passing travelers.[29][30][31][32] If Link asks to see what Maypin is selling, he reveals that his only wares are Warm Darners and Cold Darners.[33] When Link makes a purchase from Maypin, he will be grateful.[34][35] Like other Merchants, Link can also sell his own Items to Maypin.[36][37][38] After paying for Link's Items, he will either thank him or ask if he needs something else.[39][40]

Maypin operates a traveling Wagon, from which he sells goods. Initially, he can be found stopped outside of Woodland Stable.

When Link talks to Maypin at Woodland Stable, he expresses his joy at finally owning a Towing Harness.[41] Noticing that Link has been staring, Maypin accuses him of being jealous of his Towing Harness.[42] However, he claims he understands, since a Towing Harness allows a Horse to drag a Wagon.[43] Doing so has always been his dream as a Merchant.[44] He claims he does most of his business in Akkala, inviting Link to speak with him should they run into each other again.[45][46] If spoken to again, he suggests that Link acquire Pony Points from Stables to he can receive one himself.[47]
