North Mine
The North Mine,(TotKTears of the Kingdom)[1] also known as the Abandoned North Mine,(BotWBreath of the Wild)[2] or the Northern Mining Site,(TotKTears of the Kingdom)[3] is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.
Features and Overview
Breath of the Wild
The Abandoned North Mine is a disused quarry to the northwest of Goron City in Eldin Canyon. It is denoted as Death Mountain Marker #6.[2] The Mine is situated within Darunia Lake, consisting of a shore and several small islands scattered across the Lava. Updrafts created by the Lake's Lava can be used to reach these islands by carrying Link while using the Paraglider. The Mine's northernmost island has a crag known as the Vault.[4] Due to the intensity of the Scorching Climate surrounded the Abandoned North Mine, Link needs at least two levels of Flame Guard to traverse it without taking damage.
A number of Cannons belonging to Bludo have been stationed around the Abandoned North Mine,[5] which are operated by striking their levers to move them and inserting a Remote Bomb into their compartments to detonate them. These Cannons can be used to destroy debris and some of the Monster Strongholds surrounding the Mine. A rail track connecting the Mine and the Isle of Rabac begins at its southern shore. A Mine Cart can be found stationed nearby. A rubble of stones on the east islands can also be blown away using a Cannon, revealing an Ore Deposit and a Rare Ore Deposit underneath.
The Abandoned North Mine was once used by the Gorons to mine for Gems, which they would then trade for Rupees.[6] However, Divine Beast Vah Rudania's rampage caused a strong Scorching Climate to form around the Mine, and the Goron Group Mining Company was forced to stop working.[7] Since then, more Lava and Monsters have appeared in the area.[8]
Prior to Link's arrival in Goron City, Yunobo had went to the Abandoned North Mine to find painkillers for Bludo.[9] However, he became trapped in the vault after one of Divine Beast Vah Rudania's Magma Bombs caused a landslide.[10] As part of the "Divine Beast Vah Rudania" Main Quest, Link must retrieved Yunobo from the Abandoned North Mine.[11]
