BS Zelda is a remake of The Legend of Zelda (Game) but it was offered on the BS-X broadcasting system, an add-on to the popular SNES system. The gameplay was similar to its original, but there are many key differences.

Major differences

The overworld's size, for convience due to the Time System, has been cut in half vertically, making it square. The dungeons and overworld all look different, and there are much better graphics, nicer music, and the ability to choose your gender.

The biggest difference, however, is the time system. Due to the broadcasting nature of this game, the game had to be played in one sitting, and you had only one hour every week. This means that, if you "tuned in" starting in the second week, you needed to catch up very quickly.

The Magical Key, Gleeok, and Lanmola all had sprite updates in the game, but for some reason were never placed into the game at any point.

Gameplay

When you begin the game, your character automatically walks into a cave, where the old man gives you a Wooden Sword. The dungeons are all in the same place in both the First and Second Quest, but the overworld and dungeon interiors are completely redone between versions. The dungeons now spell out different phrases. The first quest spells out the word "St. Giga!", the channel the game was played on in Japan, and the second quest dungeons spell out "Nintendo".

The final dungeon was only accessable for 15 minutes (4:45-5:00), and it took the place of the cave where you get the Wooden Sword. You use the triforce in the second screen to open the door to Ganon's chamber. When you defeat him, you can talk to Zelda, and leave the cave.

Trivia

Each of the eight dungeons in the first BS Zelda quest are in the shape of a letter. When put together, it spells out STGIGA (St. GIGA).

After defeating Ganon, you can just abandon Zelda and leave the cave to beat the game.
