Confirmed by Eiji Aonuma on November 4, 2011, this new installment will take elements from previous console Zelda games. Aonuma also stated that it will not be a direct sequel to any of the other titles released on the Nintendo DS.[1] Shigeru Miyamoto has also publicly stated he wishes to create something "new, based on, or starting from" A Link to the Past.[2]

Majora's Mask 3D

It has also been suggested that if fans expressed a sufficient amount of interest, Nintendo would consider a Majora's Mask remake for the 3DS.[3] However, if the game comes to fruitition, it will have to wait until after Zelda 3DS is developed, as Nintendo doesn't want to create two remakes in the same series back-to-back.[citation needed]
