"The Imprisoning War" is a Memory in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

During the "Guidance from Ages Past" Main Quest, Mineru explains to Link that Zelda traveled to the Era of Myth and awakened as the Sage of Time, where she was involved in a tragedy.[2] She decides to tell Link about Zelda's resolve to restore the Master Sword,[3][4] which starts "The Imprisoning War" Memory.

Using the murals from the Forgotten Foundation as a visual, Mineru explains that the Zonai, who were believed to be descendants of gods, descended to the Surface from the Sky.[5] They brought the Secret Stones with them, which were treasures from the gods capable of amplifying their users' powers.[6] With the knowledge of the Zonai, Rauru became a leader, and he eventually met and married Sonia.[7] With their Secret Stones, the two of them were able to found Hyrule.[8]

However, Sonia was killed by Ganondorf, who stole her Secret Stone and transformed into the Demon King.[9] The people of Hyrule did their best to face the Monsters he summoned, but they were close to being defeated.[10] To combat Demon King Ganondorf, Rauru entrusted Secret Stones to the Sages, who fought alongside him during the Imprisoning War.[11]

The scene then shifts to the Imprisoning Chamber, where Demon King Ganondorf is currently fighting Rauru and the Six Sages. Due to his immense power, the Sages are struggling to defeat the Demon King, and Mineru can be seen collapsing after being covered in Gloom.[12] When the Sages are almost defeated, Rauru decides to sacrifice himself to defeat the Demon King.[13] The Sages throw their Weapons to distract Demon King Ganondorf, which he is able to dodge and deflect. Zelda uses Recall to send them back toward him. Demon King Ganondorf blocks them, claiming he has seen these tactics already.[14] When he turns back to his opponents, however, Rauru has disappeared.[15]

Appearing from behind Demon King Ganondorf, Rauru asserts that his pride will be his downfall.[16] Using his Right Arm, he binds the Demon King's heart and begins to siphon away his magic.[17] Demon King Ganondorf taunts Rauru, asking if he is willing to pay the price for this.[18] Rauru claims that he knows the price, and Zelda screams for him.[19] Demon King Ganondorf reminds Rauru that he will one day be freed, and Rauru predicts that in the future, Link will appear and defeat him for good.[20] As his power is drained, Demon King Ganondorf claims to be looking forward to meeting him.[21] Both Rauru and Demon King Ganondorf are frozen, the light disappearing from their eyes. With Rauru's seal in place, the Memory ends.
