"A King's Duty" is a Memory in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

Link can view "A King's Duty" by finding its Dragon's Tear, which is hidden within the Geoglyph on the side of Mount Faloraa. It needs to be obtained in order to complete "The Dragon's Tears" Main Quest.[2]

Inside the Forgotten Temple, Rauru mourns over Sonia's grave.[3] Zelda approaches him, and she claims she needs to tell him something before they face Demon King Ganondorf the next day.[4] She reveals that she traveled to the Era of Myth after discovering a man underground, and she is now certain that this was Demon King Ganondorf.[5] Due to this, she knows that they will be unable to defeat him, and he will continue to live until the Era of the Wilds in the future.[6] Looking at Rauru's Right Arm, Zelda attempts to explain his own fate.[7]

Rauru places his hand on Zelda's shoulder. He acknowledges that he may be defeated by Demon King Ganondorf, but he feels he needs to make up for allowing him to come to power.[8] As the King of Hyrule, he also claims that it is his duty to protect his citizens.[9] Should they be unable to stop the Demon King, he is relying on Link to do so in the future with the Master Sword.[10] However, Rauru believes Zelda's future happened in a world where she never came to the past, and he thinks there must be a reason she was sent to the Era of Myth.[11] Zelda considers Rauru's words as he walks away,[12] at which point the Memory ends.

Trivia

  • Both Rauru's dialogue and him placing a hand on Zelda's shoulder from "A King's Duty" are present in the April 2023 trailer for Tears of the Kingdom.[13]
  • A flashback to "A King's Duty" can be seen during the "A Master Sword in Time" Memory.
