"An Unfamiliar World" is a Memory in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

Link can view "An Unfamiliar World" by examining the Geoglyph on the Tabantha Hills and finding its Dragon's Tear. In order to complete "The Dragon's Tears" Main Quest, Link must witness this Memory.[2]

As Zelda overlooks Hyrule from a cliff on the Great Plateau, she confirms that the world appears different from what she remembers.[3] She realizes that she has indeed traveled to the Era of Myth, which has become legend in her future.[4] Rauru states they are just as confused as she is, though he takes the Secret Stone and power over Time she shares with Sonia as proof of her story.[5] Sonia taunts Rauru's need for proof, revealing that she can sense both Rauru's Light power and her own Time power within Zelda.[6] She also claims to feel a blood connection between them all.[7]

Rauru recalls Zelda's need to return to the Era of the Wilds, to which she reveals that a terrible event is unfolding in the future.[8] Zelda is concerned about how she could travel back, though, which causes Sonia to jab at Rauru's side.[9] Attempting to comfort Zelda, Sonia tells her not to worry and invites her back to their castle.[10] Zelda tries to refuse, by Sonia takes her hands into her own.[11] She offers Zelda a cover story that involves her being a distant relative, which she laughs about being technically true.[12] Sonia also promises new clothing for her.[13]

Sonia assures Zelda that she will find an answer, informing her that wisdom can take time.[14] Zelda is humbled by her kindness, being left unsure what to say.[15] Rauru speaks up again, mentioning that Mineru may know how to return Zelda to her era.[16] Zelda inquires further, Rauru reveals that she is his older sister, an expert on the Zonai, and she carries the Secret Stone of Spirit.[17] After resolving to ask for Mineru's help, the Memory ends.

Trivia

  • The cliff Zelda uses to examine Hyrule is the same one Link stands on after exiting the Shrine of Resurrection at the beginning of Breath of the Wild. The Sages can later be seen standing on the cliff during the "Tears of the Dragon" Memory.
  • Throughout "An Unfamiliar World", the Dueling Peaks can be seen in the background, although they are still joined together as a single mountain.
