Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a game for the Nintendo Switch.[1]
Gameplay
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a collection of Speedrun challenges for 13 Nintendo games released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, including The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link. Players earn in-game coins by completing challenges, which they can use to unlock new challenges and profile elements.[1]
There are four playable modes: One Player, Party Mode, World Championships, and Survival Mode. In Party Mode, up to eight players can compete to finish Challenges.
When starting, players are prompted to choose Player Icons to represent themselves. Player Icons can be purchased using Coins earned in-game.[2] There are a total of 59 The Legend of Zelda-themed Player Icons and 50 The Adventure of Link-themed Player Icons that can be used. Eight of these are unlocked by default, with four available to both The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link respectively. The remaining 101 Player Icons can be purchased using Coins earned through playing the game in units of 20, 100, or 1000 Coins.
In addition to Player Icons, players are asked to choose a Hype Tag to appear alongside their nickname.[3] Hype Tags are used to describe a player's relationship to the games represented within Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, their skill level, or to explain what console generation most closely applies to them. A section of the Hype Tags also allow players to state which character is their favorite, with "Link's the Bomb" and "Princess Zelda's #1 Fan" for The Legend of Zelda series.[4][5]
