Sakon is a character in Majora's Mask.[1]

Biography

Sakon is a thief and a regular at the Curiosity Shop,[2] which trades in stolen goods. He has a Hideout in Ikana Canyon, equipped with a security system and an impenetrable rock door that only he can open.[3] Sakon openly advertises this on a Sign outside the door.[4]

Before Link arrives in Termina, Sakon steals the Sun Mask from Kafei in North Clock Town.[5] During the Event "A Testament of Love (2)", Link and Kafei infiltrate Sakon's Hideout to take back the Sun Mask.

In the daytime on the First Day and Second Day, Sakon can be seen prancing around in circles near the Ikana River. He talks about how he had chosen to live in Ikana due to the fact that no one else lives there except for Pamela and her father.[6] He asks to see Link's Sword—most likely to steal it.[6] If Link naively says yes, Tatl will turn red and swarm Sakon to preempt the theft.[7] In either case, Tatl swarms Sakon each subsequent time Link speaks to him.

At 6:00 PM on the Night of the First Day, Sakon can be found hiding behind a pillar in the northeast corner of North Clock Town. He claims to not be doing anything suspicious.[8] At 12:20 AM, he will attempt to rob the Old Lady from the Bomb Shop of her bag as she passes through North Clock Town.[9][note 1] If Link strikes Sakon with his Sword (or with a regular attack as Goron Link or Zora Link) Sakon drops the bag and escapes Clock Town without it. If Link instead attacks Sakon with an explosive or shoots a projectile at him, the stolen bag explodes and Sakon is instantly vaporized.[note 2] None of Deku Link's attacks have any effect on Sakon.

If Link does not prevent the theft, Sakon will appear at the Curiosity Shop 24 hours later at 12:30 AM on the Night of the Second Day to sell the stolen Big Bomb Bag. The Man from Curiosity Shop initially offers 100 Rupees for it.[10] Sakon counters with 200 Rupees,[11] causing the Man from the Curiosity Shop to retaliate by threatening to tell the Bomb Shop about the theft.[12] Sakon is cowed into selling the Big Bomb Bag for only 50 Rupees.[20] He turns to leave the Curiosity Shop at 1:00 AM. If Link speaks to Sakon while he is leaving Clock Town, he will complain about how Man from Curiosity Shop took advantage of him and treated him unfairly.[21] Kafei, who had been spying on Sakon through the peephole in the Curiosity Shop Back Room, follows the thief back to his hideout.[22] At 6:00 AM on the Final Day, Kafei can be seen hiding behind the rocks just outside Sakon's Hideout, waiting for Sakon to return.[3]

If Link had previously spoken to Kafei on the Second Day and did not prevent Sakon's robbery on the First Day, Sakon returns to Ikana Canyon at 6:00 PM on the Final Day.[note 3] At 7:00 PM Sakon opens the door to the Hideout goes inside,[note 4] with Kafei on his tail. Inside Sakon's Hideout, Kafei accidentally steps on a Floor Switch which triggers the alarm system. A conveyor belt turns on and slowly sends the Sun Mask towards a hole at the other end of the Hideout. If Link and Kafei do not reach the other side of the Hideout in time, the Sun Mask drops down the hole and Sakon makes his escape.[23][24] Link is trapped in the Hideout with Kafei and has no other choice but to play the Song of Time.[25]
