"Tulin of Rito Village" is a Main Quest in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

As part of the "Regional Phenomena" Main Quest, Purah asks Link to investigate strange happenings caused by the Upheaval throughout Hyrule as part of their efforts to locate Princess Zelda.[2] Josha suggests that he visit Rito Village first, claiming to have heard a rumor that Zelda was sighted there.[3]

Tulin's introduction

When Link first arrives in Rito Village, it will be subject to an intense Blizzard. At Revali's Landing, he will find Teba and Saki arguing with Tulin.[4] Tulin insists that he is capable of investigating the Blizzard on his own,[5] though Teba groans at his words. Tulin attempts to continue his argument, but he become distracted when he notices Link nearby.[6] Asking if it really is Link, Tulin flies closer to him.[7] After confirming that it is truly Link, Tulin smiles and excitedly greets him.[8]

Teba and Saki are both pleased to see Link, having heard that he went missing.[9] Teba asks if Link remembers Tulin, noting that while he is not yet an adult, he has grown taller since they last saw each other.[10] Tulin retorts that he would be able to grow up if his parents stopped treating him like a child.[11] His father claims that until Tulin learns to rely on others, he will remain a child.[12] Tulin takes this to mean that he is unable to take care of himself, and he decides to prove himself by undertaking a scouting trip.[13] Before he leaves, Tulin retorts that he will not waste his time like everyone else is with the "Song of the Stormwind Ark".[14] Teba attempts to stop Tulin, but he flies away in the middle of his sentence.[15]

After Tulin leaves, Teba grows exasperated.[16] He reveals to Link that Tulin wants to find the source of the Blizzard, but Teba has refused to allow him to do so.[17] When Link asks about the "Song of the Stormwind Ark", Saki explains that it is an old Rito folk song, which describes Rito Village being saved by a flying ship.[18] Though Teba states that the song is for children, there are still occasional reports of Flying Ships.[19] He also claims that the Blizzard has made tales of the Stormwind Ark seem more likely.[20] Looking up at storm in the Hebra Sky, Teba voices his suspicion that there is something lurking in the clouds, but the Rito are unable to get close.[21] As a result, he started to make preparations to enter the cloud, but Tulin believed the other Rito to be acting out of fear.[22]

Teba moves away from this topic, asking Link what has brought him to Rito Village.[23] He and Saki are shocked to hear the state of Hyrule Castle.[24] While Teba is disturbed that Zelda's disappearance could be related to the Upheaval, all adult Rito are unable to contribute to the search due to the need to search for Food.[25] Saki reveals that Teba has not been able to leave Rito Village often since becoming the elder,[26] but Teba still wishes he could help somehow.[27] Instead, Teba suggests that Link ask Harth for any information on Zelda.[28] He claims Harth can be found at the Hebra Trailhead Lodge, which is located past the pair of Bonfires in the distance.[29] Once their conversation ends, "Tulin of Rito Village" will begin.

At the Hebra Trailhead Lodge, Harth will be relieved to see Link is well and asks what happened to him.[30] Upon hearing that Link is looking for Zelda, Harth admits that he has not heard any rumors about her whereabouts, since the Rito have been busy dealing with Aerocudas and the effects of the Blizzard.[31] However, he believes that Tulin may be able to help him.[32] Harth explains that Tulin was developed a technique, Tulin's Power of Wind, that allows him to patrol the skies even during the Blizzard.[33] He claims that Tulin left for the Hebra South Summit Cave with Gesane and Laissa to look for Food.[34] The Cave can be found by looking for the Bonfire in front of it.[35]

Inside the entrance to the Hebra South Summit Cave, Link will find Laissa examining their supplies.[36] She is surprised to see someone else braving the Blizzard, and she asks Link what he is doing here.[37] She accepts that Link is looking for Tulin, revealing that he and Gesane went further into the Cave to scavenge.[38] Laissa refuses to show Link how to find them, since she is watching over their current supplies.[39] However, she does warn Link of the Cave's Bubbulfrog, wishing him luck in locating Tulin.[40]

Near the Hebra South Summit Cave's exit, Link will encounter Gesane complaining about Tulin.[41] He is annoyed that Tulin flew off without him, leaving all of their Food behind.[42] When he notices Link, he is confused as to why a Hylian is so far into the Hebra Mountains during a Blizzard.[43] Gesane reveals that a flock of Monsters passed by while they were scavenging, and instead of returning to Rito Village to report them with him, Tulin left to face them on his own.[44] He points Link towards the Cedar Tree on Talonto Peak, claiming that Tulin will have followed the Monsters there.[45] Gesane remarks that Tulin should not be taking as many risks as he does.[46]

Tulin at Talonto Peak

On Talonto Peak, Tulin will be angry that he let his guard down.[47] As Link approaches him, Tulin will be shocked by his sudden appearance.[48] When Link asks what happened, Tulin admits that his Swallow Bow was taken by one of the Aerocudas.[49] He then asks Link to help him retrieve his Bow.[50] If Link agrees, Tulin will be grateful.[51] He reveals that he is capable of using his Power of Wind to blow a strong Wind, which he offers to use to help Link Glide to the Aerocuda.[52] The Aerocuda can be found flying over a ruin nearby.

Once Link defeats the Aerocuda, Tulin will take his Swallow Bow back.[53] He thanks Link for saving his Bow, since he may have lost it for good.[54] A screech can then be heard in the distance, which scares Tulin.[55] Three Aerocudas appear to drop off a group of Bokoblins.[56] Tulin asserts that he will not be made a fool of again, and he invites Link to fight the Bokoblins alongside him.[57]

Link and Tulin hear the unknown voice

After the Bokoblins have been slain, Tulin will celebrate their victory.[58] He then realizes that the ruin they are standing on must have served as the Monsters' hideout.[59] At that moment, Tulin and Link hear a voice, though they are unable to identify its source.[60] Just then, someone calls out to them from the distance, and Harth and Gesane join then on the ruin.[61] He commends their teamwork in fighting the Monsters,[62] though Tulin is embarrassed to hear that Harth saw his Bow get stolen.[63] He admits that he was wrong for not listening when Gesane tried to stop him, and if it were not for Link, he would not have been able to retriebe his Bow.[64] Harth claims that his recklessness was the reason the other adults were treating him like a child.[65] Looking towards Link, Tulin finally acknowledges it is better to work as a team instead of trying to do everything on his own.[66]

Gesane believes there is more to the story, claiming it is unlike Tulin to allow his Bow to be taken.[67] Tulin reveals that he saw Zelda being attacked by an Aerocuda, and while he was shocked, the Aerocuda was able to steal his Swallow Bow.[68] Afterwards, Zelda ascended above the cloud.[69] Though Harth is confused by Tulin's story, he informs Tulin that Link's goal is to find Zelda.[70] He suggests that Tulin join Link in his investigation of the cloud.[71]

Tulin reminds Harth that Teba forbade him from doing so,[72] but Harth reveals that only Tulin is capable of approaching the cloud from above.[73] Harth recalls Teba telling him that once Tulin learns the value of teamwork, he will become the finest Rito warrior.[74] While Tulin is surprised to hear his father's words,[75] Harth promises to tell Teba about his growth.[76] Once again, Harth tells Tulin to join Link in the clouds,[77] to which Tulin assures him that the two of them will accomplish their goal.[78] Tulin informs Link that Zelda was on the Sky Islands above Hebra Peak, which is where they should begin their search.[79] Harth informs them both that the Rito are counting on them.[80]

At the ruin on Hebra Peak, Link and Tulin will encounter Huck, lamenting that it is impossible to find the source of the Blizzard.[81] When he notices Tulin, Huck realizes he must have received permission to enter the cloud,[82] which Tulin confirms.[83] Huck reveals that he has thought Tulin's Power of Wind made him best suited for such a mission.[84] Tulin thanks Huck for his kind words, assuring him that he will not be disappointed.[85]

The Flying Ship

As Link and Tulin begin to travel through the Rising Island Chain, Tulin stops Link to tell him this is where he saw Princess Zelda, but he does not know where she went.[86] When he spots the Flying Ship nearby, Tulin runs over to check it out.[87][88] Upon seeing it up close, Tulin is able to confirm that it is a boat.[89]

At that moment, Tulin hears the strange voice again, telling him to come to the cloud above.[90] Although Tulin is confused about who is speaking to him,[91] he notices that the cloud's Lightning allows him to see the silhouette of a huge boat inside.[92] He also sees several smaller Flying Ships surrounding it, which reminds him of a verse from the "Song of the Stormwind Ark".[93] He wonders if the song was true the whole time.[94] Using both the voice calling to him and the search for Zelda as reasons, Tulin decides they should continue heading up towards the ship.[95]

The Wind Temple

After entering the cloud from its top, Link and Tulin discover that the boat at the center is the Stormwind Ark, serving as the Wind Temple.[96] Landing on its deck, Tulin is surprised that the Stormwind Ark is real.[97] He then spots Zelda nearby, but when he tries to run over to her, a gust of Wind rages from below deck, causing him to lose sight of her. He takes this is proof of the Blizzard's source.[98] He also realizes that he can no longer see the person from before.[99] When Link interacts with the Wind Temple's Terminal, its Travel Point will become active. The gears surrounding the hatch at the center of the ship will lower themselves, with its nearest latch attempting to recede. However, the other five remain still, blocking it from doing so, and all of the gears raise back up. Tulin is disappointed that they were unable to open hatch, wondering if they can open it somehow.[100]

The voice returns again,[101] and it tells Tulin to use his Power of Wind to release the five locks throughout the ship in order to open the hatch.[102] Now certain that he is hearing the voice, he decides to heed its instructions and unlock the hatch.[103] When Tulin uses his Power of Wind on one of the windmill-shaped devices in the ship, it will deactivate one of the Locks.[104] As more of the Locks are deactivated, Tulin will count how many are left.[104][105][106][107] Once all of the Locks have been deactivated, Tulin directs him to open the hatch.[108]

Colgera's introduction

When Link opens the hatch, both he and Tulin are blown away by the strong Wind it was containing. After stabilizing themselves in the air, the two of them then dive back down towards the deck.[109] Colgera rises from the now open hatch, and Tulin surmises it must be the cause of the Blizzard and resolves to defeat it.[110] After Colgera has been slain, the cloud surrounding the Wind Temple will disappear. A Heart Container falls to the ground for Link, and the Ice at the center of the deck thaws, revealing a Secret Stone.

As Tulin looks upon the Secret Stone, it will suddenly shrink and move right in front of him. When he touches the Stone, light will overtake him and Link, and they find themselves in front of the Sage of Wind. He refers to Tulin as his "brave fledgling",[111] and Tulin recognizes him as the voice that has been speaking to him.[112] The Sage of Wind reveals that he is Tulin's ancestor, serving as a Sage for Rauru, the first King of Hyrule.[113] He is proud of Tulin's Power of Wind, believing it fitting for his descendant to master such a feat.[114] The Sage then reveals that Colgera was summoned by the Demon King to prevent Tulin from obtaining the Secret Stone and awakening as a Sage.[115] When Tulin expresses confusion over his words,[116] the Sage of Wind decides to tell him the story of the Imprisoning War.[117]

The Sage of Wind shows Tulin and Link a vision of himself, Rauru, and the other Sages facing Demon King Ganondorf in the distant past.[118] They were assisted by the Secret Stones entrusted to them by Rauru.[119] However, they were unable to defeat the Demon King, and so Rauru sacrificed himself to seal him.[120]

Tulin's Secret Stone

Following the battle, the Sage of Time came to visit the Sage of Wind at the Wind Temple.[121] She informed him that the magic binding Demon King Ganondorf would come undone, but a swordsman named Link will need the help of the Rito in order to defeat him.[122] The Sage of Wind honored her request by assuring a new Rito Sage would awaken when the time came.[123] The Sage of Wind warns Tulin that Ganondorf will soon restore his strength, and so Tulin must take the Secret Stone for himself and become the new Sage of Wind.[124]

After the Sage of Wind disappears, Tulin becomes excited by the prospect of fighting alongside Link and saving the world.[125] Tulin decides to accept his ancestor's legacy and become the new Sage of Wind.[126] The Secret Stone in front of him turns green, creating an anklet around Tulin's ankle to hang around. As the new Sage of Wind, Tulin shows off his Sage Avatar to Link.[127] He asks Link to hold out his hand,[128] which he then takes with a vow to fight by his side.[129] He then gives Link the Vow of Tulin, Sage of Wind, allowing him to summon his Sage Avatar whenever he needs from his ring.[130][131] With their mission complete, Tulin declares they should return to Rito Village to inform Teba.[132]

Tulin receiving the Great Eagle Bow

Back in Rito Village, Teba watches as the Blizzard ends and all of the Snow in Rito Village disappears. Tulin and Link meet with Teba, Saki, and Harth on Revali's Landing. Harth celebrates the fact that they ended the Blizzard,[133] which Tulin claims was easy once he started working with others.[134] Teba is impressed by their work,[135] while Saki and Tulin are still surprised that the Stormwind Ark is real.[136] As a reward for ending the Blizzard, Teba gifts his Great Eagle Bow to Tulin.[137] Tulin is shocked that his father would give him something that means so much to him,[138] but Teba reveals he always planned to give it to him once he came of age as a warrior.[139] Tulin takes the Great Eagle Bow and thanks Teba, promising to prove his worth to carry it.[140]

Turning to Link, Tulin recalls that the woman in the vision the previous Sage of Wind showed them resembled Princess Zelda.[141] He wonders if it was actually Zelda that they saw, but he is confused as to how she could have appeared so long ago.[142] He decides to continue looking into the individual they saw on the Stormwind Ark, promising he will have more information for Link the next time they see each other.[143] He also reminds Link that his Vow means that the two of them will continue working together.[144] Following their conversation, "Tulin of Rito Village will be completed.

Objectives

Stage Description
1 A severe blizzard has struck Rito Village, leaving it in crisis. Teba had no information for you concerning Princess Zelda, but he suggested you ask Harth at a nearby lodge.

This lodge is north of the village at the foot of the Hebra Mountains, and it's marked by a pair of bonfires.
2 Harth had no leads on Princess Zelda either. He suggested you speak to Tulin, who has been scouting the skies since the fierce blizzard began.

Harth said that Tulin went to the Hebra South Summit Cave with Gesane and Laissa. Its entrance is marked with another bonfire.
3 Tulin was not at the cave when you went out to find him. Gesane told you that he left Hebra South Summit Cabe and went toward the lone cedar tree on Talonto Peak, visible to the north.

According to Gesane, he saw a group of monsters and gave chase alone.
4 Upon reaching the lone cedar tree, you found an upset Tulin. He told you that a flying monster stole his bow.

It's up to you to defeat the monster and get Tulin's bow back.
5 You defeated the Aerocuda and recovered Tulin's bow. But before the two of you could leave, more Aerocudas arrived—this time flinging Bokoblins at you.

Work with Tulin to defeat the monsters.
6 Tulin's recent ordeal has taught him a valuable lesson about working together. Even Harth can see that the young Rito has matured.

Go with Tulin to the sky islands above Hebra Peak, where he claims he saw Princess Zelda.
7 You found a massive ship, which Tulin says is the Stormwind Ark, floating inside the thunderhead. A figure greatly resembling Princess Zelda was seen on the ship's deck before she vanished suddenly. The blizzard, which shows no sign of abating, is coming from below the hatch. The cause of the Rito's suffering seems close at hand.
8 You tried using the terminal, but the deck's hatch did not open. The mysterious voice then spoke to you again, saying the hatch will remain shut until all five locks are unlocked.

Find the five locks the voice spoke of to save Rito Village from the never-ending blizzard and to get a lead on Princess Zelda's whereabouts.
9 You unlocked the five locks. Once you use the terminal and open the deck hatch, it will be time to step forward and stop the frigid winds spouting from belowdecks.
10 When the deck hatch opened, a massive monster emerged. This must be the culprit behind the fierce blizzard assailing Rito Village.

Work with Tulin to vanquish the monster.
11 The ice covering the altar melted after you vanquished the monster, revealing a shining stone set there.

You can sense great power emanating from the stone, and Tulin senses it as well.
Complete Rito Village is no longer at the mercy of the unusual blizzard.

Tulin, who inherited a secret stone from the ancient sage to become the new Sage of Wind, promised to lend you his power anytime.

The first report comes from Hebra to the northwest. Next up is Eldin to the northeast. The Gerudo are reporting trouble in the southwest. And finally, there's Lanayru to the east. The same ones that have been sighted around the village lately, in fact. I told the others we should return right away to report them, but Tulin clearly wasn't listening at all. There's not a Rito alive capable of crossing this stormy sky and making it all the way there. Well. Except for one. I'm talking about you, Tulin. Only you have the skill and training to create gusts at will." — Harth (Tears of the Kingdom)
