Whirlpool
Whirlpools,(MM | FS | TWW | TotK)[1][2][3][4][5][name references needed] also known as Vortexes,(OoT)[6][name references needed] Big Circles that Spin,(TotK)[7] and Big Swirly Circles,(TotK)[8] are recurring Enemies and Objects in The Legend of Zelda series. Whirlpools go unnamed in the A Link to the Past comic by Shotaro Ishinomori.
Characteristics
A Link to the Past
Whirlpools are first seen in A Link to the Past, known as Whirlpool Waterways and are scattered throughout Hyrule. Link may use certain Whirlpools to Warp to different areas in Hyrule. Whirlpools also indicate the surfacing of Zoras from bodies of water.
Ocarina of Time
Vortexes can be found in some rooms in the Water Temple. They can pull in Link and send him back to the beginning of the room.
Majora's Mask
Oracle of Ages
Whirlpools appear in the Sea of Storms in Oracle of Ages. They are impassible barriers that will swallow Link if he attempts to cross them. The only means of passing them is through an underwater entrance in the past.
Four Swords
Whirlpools appear in the Sea of Trees in Four Swords. If Link falls into one, he will drown and receive two Hearts of damage before resurfacing on dry land.
The Wind Waker
Whirlpools are found all over the Great Sea in The Wind Waker. Whirlpools form around various obstacles, such as the barrier to Jabun's cave on Outset Island or when water is displaced from Big Octos surfacing. Whenever they appear, Link must complete the task at hand within a timely manner or he will be swallowed by them. Entering a Whirlpool causes the weather to become stormy until it disappears.
Four Swords Adventures
Whirlpools appear in Four Swords Adventures, where they suck the Link down into small, underwater caverns.
Phantom Hourglass
In Phantom Hourglass, small Whirlpools that can damage the SS Linebeck appear. Once Link obtains the Cannon, he can destroy the Whirlpools with the cannonballs.
Skyward Sword
A Whirlpool appears in the Ancient Cistern after Link activates a Bulb-Shaped Switch. It draws Link into the underworld portion of the Dungeon.
Tears of the Kingdom
Whirlpools place Link into underwater Caves after he is pulled into them in Tears of the Kingdom. These Caves include the Ancient Zora Waterworks and the Lake Hylia Whirlpool Cave. As part of the "Whirly Swirly Things" Side Quest from Kula, Link must show the Korok a photo of a Whirlpool.
Other Appearances
A Link to the Past (Ishinomori)
In the A Link to the Past comic by Shotaro Ishinomori, a Whirlpool appears beneath Zora when he arrives in Misery Mire to rescue Link from Vitreous.
