Location and Uses

The Legend of Zelda

Main article: Blue Water of Life

In The Legend of Zelda, Link can use the Blue Water of Life to restore all of his Health. In order to buy it, he must first obtain a Letter from the Letter-Entrusting Old Man and show it to any Old Woman in Caves. This allows him to purchase the Blue Water of Life for 40 Rupees. He can also buy the Red Water of Life, which restores all of his Hearts when consumed and turns into a Blue Water of Life, allowing him to replenish his Health a second time.

A Link to the Past

Blue Potion
This completely restores both hearts and Magic Power.

Drinking a Medicine of Life and Magic fully restores Link's Hearts and Magic. Just like Red and Green Potions, Link needs an Empty Bottle to store it. It can be purchased from the Potion Shop for 160 Rupees.

Ocarina of Time

As part of the Biggoron's Sword Trading Game, Link will receive an Odd Mushroom from the Master Craftsman's Son. Once he has delivered it to Granny, she will begin to sell Blue Potions. They can be purchased for 100 Rupees, replenish 8 Hearts and refills Link's Magic Meter.

Majora's Mask

Link can either purchase a Bottle of Blue Potion from the Ikana Canyon Business Scrub for 100 Rupees, or give a Magic Mushroom to Kotake at the Magic Hags' Potion Shop, who will then use it to create Blue Potions and sell them for 60 Rupees each. They also cure the Curse that Blue Bubbles inflict.

The Wind Waker

There are three ways for Link to obtain the Blue Potion. If he collects four Boko Baba Seeds and gives them to Hollo, he will make a Blue Potion for him. He can also collect 15 Blue Chu Jellies from Blue Chuchus and trade them to Doc Bandam on Windfall Island, who will use them to make a Blue Potion and give Link the first sample for free. From then on, Doc Bandam will have it for sale at 60 Rupees. The third option is for Link to throw All-Purpose Bait in front of a Rat home (the hole on the wall that they run out of). The Rat may then sell him a Blue Potion for 80 Rupees.

The Minish Cap

By drinking a Blue Potion, Link can replenish 8 Hearts. If he has an Empty Bottle, he can purchase it at Syrup the Witch's Hut for 60 Rupees.

Twilight Princess

Blue Potions can be obtained by defeating a Blue Chu and scooping its Chu Jelly into an Empty Bottle. Consuming it restores all of Link's Hearts. He can also buy them from the Goron's son in Kakariko Village, the shop in the City in the Sky, or from Malo Mart in Hyrule Castle Town.

A Link Between Worlds

Drinking a Blue Potion restores all of Link's Hearts. It can be bought from the Witch's House for 200 Rupees and ten Monster Tails.

Energy Recovery

Drink to recover energy. This potion tastes odd but is wonderfully invigorating.

Blue Potions can be found in Shops for 30 Rupees, and drinking one refills two parts of Zelda's Energy Gauge but restores no Hearts. Some Shops will only start to offer them after buying an Accessory, in which case a Blue Potion jar will occupy its empty spot the next time Zelda visits.

Other Appearances

Hyrule Warriors

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

In Hyrule Warriors, Blue Potions appear as the level 3 equivalent of the Bottled Potion items that Warriors take with them into battle, replacing Purple Potions. They are unlocked after leveling up the Bazaar twice by slaying Gold Skulltulas and obtaining seven Illustration Pieces in Hyrule Warriors or 12 Illustration Pieces in Hyrule Warriors Legends and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, and restore 10 Hearts and half of a Special Attack Gauge. Like other Potions brought into battle, they are automatically refilled for the next battle. Blue Potions are replaced by Green Potions after leveling up the Bazaar again by obtaining 25 Illustration Pieces in Hyrule Warriors or 45 Illustration Pieces in Hyrule Warriors Legends and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition.
