In Ancient Stone Tablets, the Pegasus Boots are found in Level 1, inside a Treasure Chest in the final room before the Boss. By using the Control Pad while Dashing, the hero can make instantaneous 90-degree turns.
Pegasus Boots
The Pegasus Boots,(LALink's Awakening | FSAFour Swords Adventures | TMCThe Minish Cap | ALBWA Link Between Worlds)[1] also known as the Pegasus Shoes,(ALttPA Link to the Past | FSFour Swords)[1] are a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.
Location and Uses
The Pegasus Boots allow Link to Sprint at high speeds, typically in a single direction. This increased speed allows Link to use Dash Attacks to plow through Enemies and to bash into various objects such as Trees, in order to knock out their contents.
Depending on the game in which they appear, the Pegasus Boots differ between being permanently equipped, an Item that must be assigned to an action button, or a temporary power-up. In most cases, the player must hold their associated button to "charge" for about half of a second while Link runs in place, before unleashing a Sprint. Once he has begun Sprinting, the button can be released; Link's movement will stop by pressing the Control Pad in the opposite direction.
A Link to the Past
In A Link to the Past, Link receives the Pegasus Shoes from Sahasrahla after retrieving the Pendant of Courage from the Eastern Palace.[citation needed] They become permanently equipped when obtained, and are used by holding the A button in the SNES version, or the R button in the Game Boy Advance version. The Shoes must be used to obtain the Book of Mudora by bashing into a bookshelf inside the Library. If Link charges into a Tree, it may drop Apples, release Bees or a Fairy, or while in the Dark World, a Bomb. Piles of rocks and some cracked walls can also broken by bashing into them.[clarification needed]
Link's Awakening
In Link's Awakening, the Pegasus Boots are found inside the Key Cavern. They must be assigned to either the A or B button to be used. The Boots have several behaviors unique to Link's Awakening; Link can continue to walk in any direction while "charging" the Sprint, and he can use various Items while Sprinting, including the Bow, the Boomerang, the Magic Powder, and Bombs. When combined with the Roc's Feather, they can increase Link's jumping distance.
If the Sword is equipped while Sprinting, Link will automatically perform a Dash Attack, which can damage Enemies, cut through grass, and destroy crystal-shaped Rocks. If the Shield is equipped, Link will hold it up while Sprinting. The Pegasus Boots are also required to defeat Slime Eye, the Boss of the Key Cavern.
Four Swords
In Four Swords, the Pegasus Shoes appear in all Stages except the Sea of Trees, and are assigned to the A button while any of the Links are carrying them. They are required to defeat Dera Zol, the Boss of the Talus Cave. While dashing, pressing the Control Pad in a perpendicular direction allows the Links to slightly adjust the angle of their dash. The Pegasus Shoes can be used to dash up slippery slopes that the Links cannot ordinarily climb.
Four Swords Adventures
In Four Swords Adventures, the Pegasus Boots also allow the Links to dash at slight angles using the Control Pad. Dashing into Terrorpins with them flips the Enemies upside down. If the Pegasus Boots are given to a Great Fairy, they will be upgraded to Level 2. The upgraded Boots allow the Links to run over large gaps, granting access to otherwise unreachable areas.
The Minish Cap
In The Minish Cap, Link receives the Pegasus Boots after helping Rem and his Minish helpers in making them.[clarification needed] Link must assign the Boots to either the A or B button to use them; his movement direction can once again be angled slightly by using the Control Pad while Sprinting.
The Pegasus Boots can be used to knock Masks off walls, run through grass, and knock some Trees down. They allow Link to Sprint across the surface of the swamp water in Castor Wilds, thus gaining him entrance to the Fortress of Winds. By obtaining the Dash Attack Tiger Scroll, Link can perform said technique when equipping the Pegasus Boots and the Sword at the same time.
Phantom Hourglass
In Phantom Hourglass, the Pegasus Boots only appear in the Multiplayer Battle Mode. In it, Link or a Phantom can take the Pegasus Boots power-up to increase their speed for a short time.
A Link Between Worlds
In A Link Between Worlds, the Pegasus Boots can be obtained by catching the Shady Guy in Kakariko Village after he has stolen the Smooth Gem. This is done by Wall Merging while Link is out of the Shady Guy's sight, then moving to behind him and emerging from the wall. Once caught, he will apologize for taking the stone and then proceed to give Link his Pegasus Boots, which allowed him to steal things efficiently.[2]
The Pegasus Boots are permanently equipped once obtained. When Link attempts to stop dashing by pressing the Control Pad in the opposite direction, he now skids to a halt over a short distance. The Boots can be used to bash into objects such as Trees and pillars, knocking down Lost Maiamais and other Items such as Apples and Rupees. They are required in order to complete the Hyrule Hotfoot Mini-Game as well as the Treasure Hunter Cave near the Vacant House.

Trivia

- In Hyrule Warriors, Young Link momentarily uses winged boots for his sixth Strong Attack combo to move around quickly. These boots bear a resemblance to both the Pegasus Boots and the Hover Boots.
Nomenclature
The Pegasus Boots are based on the eponymous horse from Greek mythology. In it, Pegasus was a winged horse, famous for his speed.
