{{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} is the main settlement of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Desert|link}} and consequently the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo|link}} people. Only women are allowed to enter the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town|display=Town}}.<ref>{{Cite|They {{Color|BotW Red|only let women into that town}}...And to think we came all the way out here...|Robsten|BotW}}</ref> If {{Term|BotW|Link|link}} tries to enter {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}, the guards will not let him.<ref>{{Cite|Freeze! Where do you think you're going?! Not into town—that's for sure! No voe allowed. This {{Term|BotW|Main Quest|display=Quest}} allows {{Term|BotW|Link}} to enter {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} by disguising himself as a woman while wearing the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Outfit|link}}. Once inside, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can meet with {{Term|BotW|Riju|link}}, chief of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo}}, in the {{Term|BotW|Royal Palace|link}} to begin the {{Term|BotW|Divine Beast Vah Naboris (Quest)|link}}" {{Term|BotW|Main Quest}}.<ref>{{Cite|You stand before {{Color|BotW Blue|Lady Riju}}, chief of the Gerudo! At certain times, there is a class being taught by {{Term|BotW|Ashai}}. {{Term|BotW|Traysi|link}} can be found in various places throughout the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town|display=Town}}.

{{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} is the primary settlement of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Desert|link}}, and it consequently serves as the home of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo|link}} people. Since the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo}} are a solely female race, they only allow women to enter the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town|display=Town}}.<ref>{{Cite|They {{Color|BotW Red|only let women into that town}}...And to think we came all the way out here...|Robsten|BotW}}</ref> When inside {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}, {{Term|BotW|Link|link}} will not be subjected to the {{Term|BotW|Heat|link}} or {{Term|BotW|Freezing Climate|link}} of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Desert}}. The {{Term|BotW|Daqo Chisay Shrine|link}} resides right outside {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}'s walls. {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} also houses a {{Term|BotW|Goddess Statue|link}} near the {{Term|BotW|Southeast Gate|link}}, where {{Term|BotW|Link}} can exchange {{Plural|BotW|Spirit Orb|link}} for {{Plural|BotW|Heart Container|link}} or {{Plural|BotW|Stamina Vessel|link}}.<ref>{{Cite|It appears you have claimed {{Color|BotW Red|four}} {{Color|BotW Blue|Spirit Orbs}}. In the past, {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} was constructed around the largest oasis in the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Desert}}.<ref name="CaC 315">{{Cite Book|quote= |book= CaC |publisher= |page= 315}}</ref> The {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town|display=Town}}'s {{Term|BotW|Water (Terrain)|link}} is sourced from the {{Term|BotW|Royal Palace|link}}, where it then flows throughout the town within waterways.<ref name="CaC 316">{{Cite Book|quote= |book= CaC |publisher= |page= 316}}</ref> Being isolated from the rest of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule|link}}, {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}'s culture developed independently and is considered to be unique.<ref name="CaC 315"/> During the {{Term|BotW|Great Calamity|link}} 100 years ago, {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} was spared any damage from the {{Plural|BotW|Guardian|link}}' assault, though their chief at the time, {{Term|BotW|Urbosa|link}}, was killed while fighting {{Term|BotW|Thunderblight Ganon|link}}.<ref>{{Cite|Stay on your edge, Link! This formidable adversary was made by Ganon and brought me to a warrior's demise 100 years ago.|Urbosa|BotW}}</ref> In modern times, the chief of {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} is {{Term|BotW|Riju|link}}, who inherited the position at a young age due to her mother's untimely demise.<ref>{{Cite|Buliara told me today that Mother has passed on and gone to a better place... She said that my mother's death means I am now the chief of the Gerudo people. I wish she'd stayed here, though. I don't see how it can be a better place with us apart...|Chief's Diary|BotW}}</ref> When {{Term|BotW|Divine Beast Vah Naboris|link}} became active in the {{Term|BotW|East Barrens|link}}, the {{Plural|BotW|Gerudo}} began to fear that it would trample their {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town|display=Town}}.<ref>{{Cite|That's the {{Color|BotW Blue|Divine Beast Vah Naboris}}. They say it used to be a god who protected this area, but... It suddenly appeared a little while ago and just started walking around aimlessly. Everyone's afraid that it may wander into town eventually.|Lashley|BotW}}</ref><ref>{{Cite|Having investigated Divine Vah Naboris, I can say that if it came to Gerudo Town, we'd be helpless.|Chief's Diary|BotW}}</ref>

When {{Term|BotW|Link}} normally tries to enter {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}, he will be stopped by the guards.<ref>{{Cite|Freeze! Where do you think you're going?! Not into town—that's for sure! Off with you!|Dorrah|BotW}}</ref> As part of the "{{Term|BotW|Forbidden City Entry|link}}" {{Term|BotW|Main Quest|link}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} is tasked with finding a man who was supposedly able to enter {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}.<ref>{{Cite|You heard of a man at the Kara Kara Bazaar who found a way to sneak into Gerudo Town, a place men are forbidden from entering.<br/><br/>Try and locate some people who know his whereabouts.|Adventure Log|BotW}}</ref> After receiving the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Outfit|link}} from {{Term|BotW|Vilia|link}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} will be able to pass through the gates of {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}.<ref>{{Cite|You snuck into Gerudo Town successfully!<br/><br/>You were able to fool the town guards by disguising yourself in a Gerudo outfit.|Adventure Log|BotW}}</ref> In addition to other pieces of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Outfit}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can wear the {{Term|BotW|Sand Boots|link}}, the {{Term|BotW|Snow Boots|link}}, and the {{Term|BotW|Thunder Helm|link}} in {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} without being thrown out by the guards.

{{Term|BotW|Link}} is not harmed by {{Term|BotW|Heat}} while inside {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}. The {{Term|BotW|Daqo Chisay Shrine|link}} resides right outside {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}'s walls. {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} also houses a {{Term|BotW|Goddess Statue|link}} near the {{Term|BotW|Southeast Gate|link}}. {{Term|BotW|Link}} can wear {{Term|BotW|Sand Boots|link}} or {{Term|BotW|Snow Boots|link}} instead of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Sirwal|link}} in {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}. He can also wear the {{Term|BotW|Thunder Helm}} instead of the {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Veil|link}}. The {{Term|BotW|Gerudo}} soldiers will throw {{Term|BotW|Link}} out if he removes any piece of his {{Term|BotW|Gerudo}} outfit, {{Term|BotW|Thunder Helm}}, {{Term|BotW|Sand Boots}} or {{Term|BotW|Snow Boots}}, or if Link attempts to enter by scaling the walls.

I don't see how you can trust a complete stranger with something as important as this task. Perhaps if this person were first to prove his worth by recovering your stolen Thunder Helm...|Buliara|BotW}}</ref> Once he returns to {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}} with the {{Term|BotW|Thunder Helm}}, he will be directed to meet with {{Term|BotW|Riju}} outside of her {{Term|BotW|Riju's Bedroom|link|display=Bedroom}}, which is located on the second floor of the {{Term|BotW|Royal Palace}}.<ref>{{Cite|If you are looking for {{Color|BotW Blue|Lady Riju}}, she's on the {{Color|BotW Red|second floor}}. Let's meet up at the {{Color|BotW Red|lookout post}} {{Color|BotW Blue|south of town}}.|Riju|BotW}}</ref> After {{Term|BotW|Link}} successfully appeases the {{Term|BotW|Divine Beast}}, {{Term|BotW|Riju}} will allow him to take the {{Term|BotW|Scimitar of the Seven|link}} and the {{Term|BotW|Daybreaker|link}} as a reward for saving {{Term|BotW|Gerudo Town}}.<ref>{{Cite|{{Color|BotW Blue|Naboris}} is no longer a threat to the town... I trust you'll accept them. These pieces of equipment are priceless treasures of the Gerudo people. They were once worn by {{Color|BotW Blue|Lady Urbosa}}. *Despite being a place where only females are allowed two male Gorons (a race that has no notable female members) are shown to be in the city with [[Lyndae|one]] of them outright commenting on it by questioning why he was allowed in even though he is male. Gerudo Town is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

The North Gate of Gerudo Town

Gerudo Town is the primary settlement of the Gerudo Desert, and it consequently serves as the home of the Gerudo people. Since the Gerudo are a solely female race, they only allow women to enter the Town.[4] When inside Gerudo Town, Link will not be subjected to the Heat or Freezing Climate of the Gerudo Desert. The Daqo Chisay Shrine resides right outside Gerudo Town's walls. Gerudo Town also houses a Goddess Statue near the Southeast Gate, where Link can exchange Spirit Orbs for Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels.[5]

In the past, Gerudo Town was constructed around the largest oasis in the Gerudo Desert.[6] The Town's Water is sourced from the Royal Palace, where it then flows throughout the town within waterways.[7] Being isolated from the rest of Hyrule, Gerudo Town's culture developed independently and is considered to be unique.[6] During the Great Calamity 100 years ago, Gerudo Town was spared any damage from the Guardians' assault, though their chief at the time, Urbosa, was killed while fighting Thunderblight Ganon.[8] In modern times, the chief of Gerudo Town is Riju, who inherited the position at a young age due to her mother's untimely demise.[9] When Divine Beast Vah Naboris became active in the East Barrens, the Gerudo began to fear that it would trample their Town.[10][11]

When Link normally tries to enter Gerudo Town, he will be stopped by the guards.[12] As part of the "Forbidden City Entry" Main Quest, Link is tasked with finding a man who was supposedly able to enter Gerudo Town.[13] After receiving the Gerudo Outfit from Vilia, Link will be able to pass through the gates of Gerudo Town.[14] In addition to other pieces of the Gerudo Outfit, Link can wear the Sand Boots, the Snow Boots, and the Thunder Helm in Gerudo Town without being thrown out by the guards.

During the "Divine Beast Vah Naboris" Main Quest, Link offers Riju and Buliara his help in calming the Divine Beast.[15] Before he can do so, he must first prove himself by retrieving the Thunder Helm, which was stolen by the Yiga Clan.[16] Once he returns to Gerudo Town with the Thunder Helm, he will be directed to meet with Riju outside of her Bedroom, which is located on the second floor of the Royal Palace.[17] There, she tells him to meet her at the Lookout Post when he is ready to face Divine Beast Vah Naboris.[18] After Link successfully appeases the Divine Beast, Riju will allow him to take the Scimitar of the Seven and the Daybreaker as a reward for saving Gerudo Town.[19]

Initially, a total of three Side Quests can be found in Gerudo Town, those being "Medicinal Molduga",[20] "The Secret Club's Secret",[21] and "Tools of the Trade".[22] "The Seven Heroines" Shrine Quest can also be obtained after Link is able to enter Gerudo Town.[23] After the "Divine Beast Vah Naboris" Main Quest has been completed, three new Side Quests become available, which are "The Mystery Polluter",[24] "The Search for Barta",[25] and "The Thunder Helm".[26]

Two separate Treasure Chests are located within Gerudo Town. The first is a wooden Chest can be found in the storage area northeast of Fashion Passion, and it contains a Silver Rupee. A second Treasure Chest made of metal is buried in the Sand near the Southeast Gate, which Link can find a Golden Bow inside of.

Following the Upheaval, Gerudo Town was covered by a Sand Shroud that made it almost impossible for anyone to navigate the Gerudo Desert, and soon came under attack by a horde of Gibdos that could not be harmed by the soldiers' Weapons. The majority of Gerudo Town's inhabitants took refuge in an underground shelter until the situation can be resolved, while Gerudo Town itself is nearly deserted and occupied by Gibdos.

Trivia

  • Many of the facilities in Gerudo Town were inspired by Japanese bridal training.[7]
  • Despite being a place where only females are allowed two male Gorons (a race that has no notable female members) are shown to be in the city with one of them outright commenting on it by questioning why he was allowed in even though he is male. This further implies that the Gorons are a male only race.
