Hot Head is the boss of Turtle Rock in Link's Awakening.

Hot Head resembles giant Podoboo, the living fireballs from the Super Mario series, also encountered in this dungeon. He also resembles Fryguy who was a boss in Super Mario Bros. 2. He attacks Link to prevent him from playing the Instrument of the Sirens.[1] After Hot Head is defeated, he will also state that Koholint Island is just part of the Wind Fish's dream.[2]

Strategy

In battle, Hot Head jumps out of the lava briefly to shoot fireballs at Link. Link must use the Magic Rod to defeat him. Hot Head is capable of dealing great damange to Link either by making contact with him or by hitting him with splashes of lava. Upon his defeat, Link earns the Thunder Drum.

Trivia

  • Hot Head bears a lot of similarity to Gouen, a boss in Four Swords. Hot Head's Japanese name translates to "Big Flame", while Gouen's name can be translated as "Master Flame".
  • It is strange that Hot Head is weak to fire, as he is a flame enemy.
