Characteristics

Hyrule Compendium Entry
195  Mucktorok
Description
The culprit behind the sludge that plagued Zora's Domain. Despite its small size, it was able to produce a massive deluge of the substance, polluting the entire region. It can mold sludge into outer shells of various shapes, a technique it uses both to protect itself and attack its foes.
Common Locations
Water Temple

Mucktorok is a small Octorok-like creature, not much larger than a regular Octorok, which can create and control Sludge. It uses this Sludge to make a shark-like monster similar to a Gyorg, which it rides in battle. One Mucktorok is the source of the Sludge that is polluting the Lanayru Region. After this Mucktorok is slain in the Water Temple, three Mucktoroks can be found at Boss Rematches throughout the Depths. The first is located west of the Abandoned Tarrey Mine in the Akkala Highlands Depths, the second is located near the Uinoj Lightroot in the Lanayru Wetlands Depths, and the final one is near the Uoyoyuik Lightroot in the Central Hyrule Depths. If Mucktorok is not defeated in the Water Temple, Link fights it at Gloom's Origin during the War in the Depths of Hyrule. It appears after Marbled Gohma and before Queen Gibdo.

When defeated in the Depths, Mucktoroks drop Octo Balloons, Octorok Eyeballs, and Octorok Tentacles. They will also unlock a Treasure Chests containing Huge Crystallized Charges the first time they are defeated.

Mucktorok hides in its Sludge shark, and it attacks with a combination of charging attacks, waves of Sludge, and a Sludge beam. The Sludge shark resists most forms of attack, but Sidon's Power of Water or any Water-based attack will wash away the Sludge and expose Mucktorok. It will attempt to flee when it is vulnerable, but it can be stunned with an Arrow when it does so.

At half health, Mucktorok will begin spraying Sludge around the arena to slow Link down and make it harder for him to dodge its attacks. The Sludge projectiles can also damage Link if he takes a direct hit. Additionally, Mucktorok will begin jumping between puddles of Sludge when it is exposed and will continue to spray Sludge while doing so, making it harder to hit.

Nomenclature

Mucktorok appears to be a portmanteau of "muck" and "Octorok".
