Ramrock
Template:Boss Ramrock is the boss in the Ancient Tomb dungeon in Oracle of Ages.
Ramrock was the final obstacle before Link and the Essences, the guardian of the Falling Star. As such, he was the strongest of the eight guardians, able to change his weak spot with the four different forms he took, but never able to rid himself of one.
Using a different strategy in every form, Link was able to defeat him with the aid of Bombs, the Seed Shooter and the Power Glove.
Strategy
Ramrock has four different strategies, one for each form.
For his first form, Ramrock would move left to right against the back of the room, launching his fists at Link. To defeat him, Link would slash at Ramrock's launched fists with his sword, sending them back the way they came and back onto Ramrock three times.
Ramrock's second form he will replace his hands with large spiked fists and start moving in the room trying to crush Link. Link would have to place bombs between its hands, which exploded and damaged it when it slammed them together, and will have to do this three times.
In his third form, Ramrock will be once again moving left to right shooting energy balls and lasers from his eyes, while having replaced his hands with shields, protecting his front from any harm, but leaving his back vulnerable. The Seed Shooter armed with Ember Seeds or Scent Seeds is used to damage this form, by bouncing seeds off of the back wall and into Ramrock's back four times.
In Ramrock's final form, he replaces the shields with ball and chains, again moving left and right, stopping every once in a while to punch Link with one of them or sometimes with both. By grabbing the ball that Ramrock does not launch using the Power Glove, all Link must do is send it slamming back into its master. With good timing, Link can continue to pull the ball out three times without Ramrock trying to move away. In this form is also possible to use a block created using the Cane of Somaria to protect from the attacks, but it wouldn't help defeating Ramrock.
Trivia
- For reasons unknown, Link's Spin Attack is not capable of deflecting the fists of Ramrock's first form.
- This boss is very similar to Bongo Bongo from Ocarina of Time, Gohdan from The Wind Waker, and Mazaal from The Minish Cap. It is fair to note that in Japanese, Ramrock's name (ゴーリガン) is written with three of the four katana used in Gohdan's name (ゴードン).
- His name could be a reference to Eyerok from Super Mario 64, or Wham Bam Rock from the Kirby series, with which he also bears resemblance.
