This article is about the Boss. For other uses, see Turtle Rock (Disambiguation).

Turtle Rock is a Sub-Boss in Link's Awakening.[2][3]

Characteristics

Turtle Rock is a crocodile-like Tortoise that had a petrification enchantment placed on it.[2][1] When first encountered in its petrified state, it blocks the entrance to the Turtle Rock Dungeon, akin to the entrance of the eponymous Dungeon in A Link to the Past. However, by playing the Frog's Song of Soul, the enchantment on its head is reversed, causing the head to come to life and try to attack Link despite him freeing it.[1] It attacks by extending its neck to slam into him, similar to the behavior of Trinexx in A Link to the Past. Unlike Trinexx, Turtle Rock can be harmed by simply attacking with a Sword, and is relatively weak. Once Turtle Rock is destroyed, the entrance to the Dungeon is revealed.

Trivia

  • Despite only being a Sub-Boss, Turtle Rock has a theme unique to it, including a special introduction as it comes to life.
  • To date, Turtle Rock is the only Sub-Boss in The Legend of Zelda series fought at the entrance of a Dungeon, and is the only Boss named after a Dungeon.
