The Twilit Bloat is a mini-boss appearing in Twilight Princess. This creature is a bloated, giant Shadow Insect with tentacles emerging from its abdomen that can release electric shockwaves. This larger variant has the unique ability to swim underwater. Judging by its size and status as a mini-boss, it is plausible that this variant is the Queen of the Shadow Insects, as queen insects are characteristically larger to enable reproduction.

To defeat Twilit Bloat, Link must wait until it isn't charging him or is bursting with electricity.  He must then L-target it and leap onto its lower section, then proceeding to hold the L button and repeatedly press A to bite it furiously. The young hero must repeat these steps a few more times and it will eventually fall into the water, lying on its back. At this point, Link must jump on its belly and use the energy field with Midna's help to attack its six tentacles at the same time. Once they are all destroyed in the same instant, it will shrivel up and die. This will release the last tear of light Link will collect, allowing him to finish returning light to Hyrule.

Once the Twilit Bloat emerges from the lake

What?

Once Link sees the Twilit Bloat using his Senses

What... What is that thing? I've never seen anything like it!

Ugh, I HATE creepy things like that! Do something, fast!

When the Twilit Bloat is flipped over

Ugh... I don't want to touch it!

H-Hey! While it's flipped over, jump on and punish it!

Once the Twilit Bloat is defeated

Hey! Hurry up and pick up the Tear of Light that it dropped!

Once Link obtains 15 Tears of Light in the Lanayru Province (11 in Twilight Princess HD), the Twilit Bloat will appear in Lake Hylia, holding the last Tear of Light.[2] Once encountered, Wolf Link must wait until the Twilit Bloat tries to ram into him with Electricity[3] and then dodge it. He must then Target it and leap onto its lower section in order to bite it. Link must repeat this process twice more until the Twilit Bloat falls into the water, lying on its back. The Twilit Bloat remains in this stunned position for roughly 25 seconds before it regains mobility. Thereafter, only one Jump Attack is needed to stun the Twilit Bloat again.

When stunned, the Twilit Bloat is visible to the naked eye. Link must jump onto its belly and use the energy field with Midna's help to attack its six tentacles at the same time. Once they are all destroyed, the Twilit Bloat will be defeated. This will release the last Tear of Light Link must collect, allowing him to return Light to Hyrule.

Trivia

 • The Twilit Bloat resembles a type of sea crustacean known as a Giant Isopod.
