Fraaz is a bat-like boss in Spirit Tracks, residing in the Snow Temple. He has a physical appearance that resembles a Miniblin and a head that looks like a Keese. This boss is very similar to the fight against the duo of witch sisters, Twinrova from Ocarina of Time, in the way that he can shoot both fire, and ice, and his weakness will be either cold or heat depending on his physical status. He also will split into two ghostly creatures if Link hits him with the boomerang after passing through ice or fire like Blaaz, his relative from Phantom Hourglass. He likes to inflate like a balloon to intimidate his enemies before a battle.

Strategy
Characteristics
The arena where the spirit is fought is located on the top of the Snow Temple, in the ice and cold, with two torches in the center. As soon as Link enters, both torches ignite- one begins to burn with flame, and the other with ice-cold blue flame. The demonic spirit immediately appears, swelling up like a balloon. Fraaz starts off by swelling up, glowing with a certain kind of element, either fire or ice, and after a few seconds releases a devastating attack of the corresponding element. Link must use the element that opposes the spirit's attack to stun the ghoul and make him stop his attack. After several slashes, Fraaz splits into two small, ghostly, elemental dolls that each have a certain element. The aura that gives them their power is cleverly cloaked, but a hit with the boomerang will briefly show the elemental alignment of one doll. The dolls polarity can also be seen on the top screen (it was probably meant for the player to use the top screen, as the top screen is used in all the other DS boss fights). The dolls can charge up a low-power attack if Link leaves them long enough, but these are easy to avoid. After viewing an elemental aura, the dolls will hurriedly swap, hoping to make Link lose the position of the vulnerable one. A boomerang laden with element will destroy a doll, and once both of them die Fraaz reforms, shaken up. He will become enraged, and destroy the two torches, forcing Link to use his boomerang on the monster's attacks to defeat him. Two doll-killing rounds later, the fiend swells up, freezes as a victory theme is played, and collapses into black smoke, giving up the Force Gem of the Snow Temple.
At the start of the battle, Fraaz will inflate himself and prepare an attack using either fire or ice. In order to defeat him, Link must target him with the Boomerang after igniting it with the opposing element from one of the two Torches in the center of the room. After enough damage is dealt, Fraaz splits himself into two separate elemental entities, known as Fraaz Jr. Link must then attack using the same method while using either the map on the upper screen or their attacks to differentiate between the two.

Trivia
Defeating the pair causes Fraaz to reform and prompts him to destroy the two Torches. From this point forward, Link must repeat the same strategy, only using the elemental attacks of both Fraaz and Fraaz Jr. against them. As the battle progresses into its second and third phases, Fraaz will begin to inflate himself even more with each attack. This will require increasingly more hits with the Boomerang in order to stun him and render him vulnerable to Link's Sword. After sustaining enough damage, Fraaz will inflate himself one final time and explode into dust. This releases the temple's Force Gem, restoring the energy flow of the Tower of Spirits.
*Fraaz's name is derived from the word "freeze," as well as "Blaaz," his predecessor from Phantom Hourglass whose name is a pun on the word "blaze." As such, his name is derived from the words "freeze" and "blaze," aptly fitting considering his ability to freeze and burn.

Fraaz is the Boss of the Snow Temple in Spirit Tracks.[1]

Characteristics

At the start of the battle, Fraaz will inflate himself and prepare an attack using either fire or ice. In order to defeat him, Link must target him with the Boomerang after igniting it with the opposing element from one of the two Torches in the center of the room. After enough damage is dealt, Fraaz splits himself into two separate elemental entities, known as Fraaz Jr.[2] Link must then attack using the same method while using either the map on the upper screen or their attacks to differentiate between the two.

Nomenclature

Fraaz's name is derived from the word "freeze," as well as "Blaaz," his predecessor from Phantom Hourglass whose name is a pun on the word "blaze." As such, his name is derived from the words "freeze" and "blaze," considering his ability to freeze and burn.
