The Cave of No Return is the second Stage of Whereabouts of the Wind in Four Swords Adventures.[1]

Features and Overview

The Cave of No Return picks up directly from the end of Lake Hylia (Stage), where the Links broke the dark barriers at the conclusion of the level. Upon approaching the entrance, the wooden barrier will rise, allowing entry. The Heroes will come across several cave-dwelling enemies, such as Rats and Keese. They will also come across the Lonely Old Man several times throughout the dungeon, who will inform the Heroes of ways to progress using their powers together.[2][3][4]

Unique to this dungeon is the lack of adequate lighting, so the Links must put the Lamp to good use to make progress through the dungeon. Adding to the darkness is the lengthy labyrinth that the Heroes must traverse to complete the Stage. In the Flame Wall room, the Links must lower the Flame Wall by pushing four Blocks to acquire a Small Key. Keeping in line, the next two rooms consist of long and winding Block puzzles that must be traversed to progress. Further in, the Links must avoid falling into Trapdoors, which can be achieved by walking in a straight line through the center of the narrow corridor they're found in.

Progressing further into the Dungeon, the Links will have to maneuver a maze inhabited by a single Mage who taunts the Heroes about failing.[5][6] After correctly proceeding right, left, and right respectively, and proceeding to the next chamber, the Heroes will find the Boss of the Stage. Like all middle Stages, the Boss is Shadow Link. After the Links defeat him, the path opens to the final room, where the Links must break the dark barriers to progress to the next Stage, Hyrule Castle.
