Entrance to the Belly

File:Jabujabu.png

As the name would indicate, the dungeon is set inside the body of Jabu-Jabu, guardian of the Zoras.[1] To enter Jabu's Jabu's Belly, Link must first obtain permission from King Zora.[2] To receive permission, Link must first rid the seas of the filthy seawater, which has left Jabu-Jabu near death.[3] This is done by using the Fairy Powder to lift the curse set by Veran on the Fairy Queen.[4] The Fairy Queen will then cleanse the seas,[5] allowing Link to enter Jabu-Jabu's Belly.

Link can only enter Jabu-Jabu's Belly in the present time, as Jabu-Jabu is too small in the past.[6]

Themes and Navigation

Although located within a living being, Jabu-Jabu's Belly is no different than any other dungeon in the game, other than the walls, which are littered with small pores that open and close. The dungeon consists of three different floors. On the third floor, Link will find three Floor Switches that can raise or lower the water level in the dungeon (not unlike the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time). Jabu Jabu's Belly features one side-scrolling area, in which Angler Fish, the mini-boss of the dungeon, is located. In this dungeon, Link will obtain the Long Hook, an upgrade of the Switch Hook. This item is essential in the navigation of the dungeon, and is required to access the lair of the dungeon's boss, Plasmarine. Once Link defeats Plasmarine in an underwater battle, he will receive a Heart Container as well as the seventh Essence of Time, the Rolling Sea.

Minor Enemies and Traps

Trivia

  • The mini-boss of the dungeon, Angler Fish, also appears as a boss in Link's Awakening.
  • If the two floors are stacked on top of each other (shown in the map below), they form the shape of a fish.
