The Lakna Rokee Shrine,[1] designated by the Trial name Lakna Rokee's Blessing,[1] is an Ancient Shrine in Breath of the Wild.

Entrance to the Shrine

Lakna Rokee Shrine is in a forest on the East Hill of Kakariko Village in West Necluda. The Ancient Shrine is hidden underground next to a Pedestal.

To reveal the Ancient Shrine, Link must place the Sheikah Heirloom, an Ancient Orb kept in Impa's House, into the Pedestal's Concave Slot. However, before "The Stolen Heirloom" Shrine Quest begins, Impa will not let Link touch the Heirloom.[2]

"The Stolen Heirloom" can be initiated by completing all Side Quests in Kakariko Village. Once this has been done, Link can enter Impa's House to find Paya crying. She reveals to Link that the Sheikah Heirloom has been stolen.[3]

Impa then shares a legend about the Sheikah Heirloom, revealing that Paya believes it referred to Link.[4] Eventually, her research showed that the legend may have been a way to unearth an Ancient Shrine using the Sheikah Heirloom.[5] Paya wonders whether it was someone in the Village who stole the Heirloom.[6] Due to Paya's fears, Link is asked to spend a day by her side.[7] After doing so, Paya calms down, saying that Dorian and Cado saw no strangers around.[8] She warns Link that whoever the thief is, they might still be nearby.[9] If he sees anyone acting suspiciously at night, she tells him not to approach.[10]

At night, Impa's guard Dorian can be seen abandoning his post at 10:00 PM. Link can follow him out of Kakariko Village and onto the East Hill, all the way to the Pedestal. Dorian will shout at an unknown entity,[11] causing a Yiga Blademaster to appear on the Pedestal.

Dorian accuses the Yiga Clan of stealing the Sheikah Heirloom.[12] When Dorian inquires about the theft,[13] the Blademaster tells him not to play dumb.[14] He then reveals that Dorian was the one who told them about the Heirloom, but now he is useless to the Yiga Clan and must be ended.[15] At this point, the Yiga Blademaster notices Link watching and proceeds to attack him.[16]

Once the Yiga Blademaster has been defeated, Dorian admits that everything was his fault.[17] He then reveals to Link that he was previously a member of the Yiga Clan.[18] He left when he met an incredible woman, the mother of his daughters.[19] However, his wife was killed as punishment.[20] Fearful for the lives of Koko and Cottla, Dorian continued to gather information for the Yiga.[21] When Dorian again tried to separate from the Yiga, the lives of Impa and Paya were threatened.[22]

Dorian says that the Sheikah tried to use the Sheikah Heirloom to unlock the Ancient Shrine, but they could not make it work.[23] He then asserts that he and the rest of the Sheikah are devoted to helping Link.[24] He tells Link to place the Sheikah Heirloom in the Pedestal.[25]

After placing the Sheikah Heirloom into the Concave Slot, the Pedestal will activate, and Lakna Rokee Shrine will rise from beneath the ground. Dorian apologizes to Link for everything, asking for what really happened to be kept a secret.[26] Though he does not believe he deserves mercy, he does not wish for Koko and Cottla to suffer more.[27] He pledges to protect Kakariko Village and his family from now on.[28]

As Link enters Lakna Rokee Shrine, he is greeted by its Monk, Lakna Rokee, who states that merely being able to enter the Ancient Shrine is proof of his worth.[29]

Themes and Navigation

Lakna Rokee Shrine features no puzzles, simply a direct path to the Monk's Pedestal bearing Lakna Rokee. Along this path is a Treasure Chest containing an Edge of Duality. When Link approaches Lakna Rokee, the Monk will commend him for his efforts, giving him a Spirit Orb as a reward.[30] Lakna Rokee then wishes Link well before fading away.[31]
