Up from the forest is a river with a bridge crossing it. 10 small blue and 4 big red {{Plural|FSA|Force Gem}} float in between each side of the river. They can be picked up with {{Plural|FSA|Boomerang}}. Above here is an open area with two {{Plural|FSA|Shadow Link|link}} standing on a ridge, each wielding a {{Term|FSA|Fire Rod|link}}, who set the {{Term|FSA|Grass}} in front of them on {{Term|FSA|Fire|link}}. A {{Term|FSA|Bomb Flower|link}} can be found on the right on the ground among some {{Term|FSA|Grass}}, and another can be found on the ridge near where the left {{Term|FSA|Shadow Link}} stands. The walls can be blown up on both sides of the ridge with the {{Plural|FSA|Bomb Flower}} to reveal entrances to a {{Term|FSA|Cave}} full of {{Plural|FSA|Hole|link}}.

The right entrance leads to a path with two {{Plural|FSA|Jar}} and a {{Term|FSA|Star Tile|link}} hidden under the top {{Term|FSA|Jar}} on it. At the end of the path sits a single {{Term|FSA|Bow}}. Standing on the {{Term|FSA|Star Tile}} causes a row of {{Plural|FSA|Block}} obstructing a set of four {{Plural|FSA|Eye Switch|link}} to disappear. The left entrance leads onto a path providing the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} a place to shoot the {{Plural|FSA|Eye Switch}} from. Once the {{Plural|FSA|Eye Switch|display=Switches}} are shot, several tiles appear, connecting both sides and allowing the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} to exit to the north.

Outside the exit to the {{Term|FSA|Cave}} is an area filled with {{Plural|FSA|Buzz Blob|link}}. A tuft of {{Term|FSA|Grass}} covers a {{Term|FSA|Hole}} leading down into a {{Term|FSA|Cave}}. Four {{Plural|FSA|Foot Switch|link}} can be found beneath four {{Plural|FSA|Jar}} at the bottom of the cave, triggering tiles to appear and grant the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} access to a pair of {{Plural|FSA|Treasure Chest|link}}. Outside of the {{Term|FSA|Cave}} on the top left of the area, a {{Term|FSA|Ladder|link}} leads up to a steep part of the {{Term|FSA|Death Mountain Foothills|display=Foothills}} with a tall {{Term|FSA|Ladder}} in it. This {{Term|FSA|Ladder}} brings the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} up to a high spot mostly blocked off by a big {{Term|FSA|Rock}} with an {{Term|FSA|Old Man|link}} on a ledge below. The {{Term|FSA|Old Man}} informs the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} that near the {{Plural|FSA|Hinox|link}} is a location called {{Term|FSA|Hebra's Hill|link}}, said by the local people to curse whoever enters it to be lost forever.<ref>{{Cite|There's an area near the {{Color|FSA Purple|one-eyed giants}} called {{Color|FSA Green|Hebra's Hill}}. Past the fences is a maze of {{Plural|FSA|Rock}}, more fences, and {{Plural|FSA|Deadrock|link}}. On a lowered area lies the entrance to a {{Term|FSA|Cave}} with its contents blocked by {{Plural|FSA|Mole|link}}.

Once the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} get past it, they enter a flat plain containing the {{Term|FSA|Moving House|link}}. Once all the {{Plural|FSA|Deadrock}} have been killed, four {{Plural|FSA|Magic Hammer|link}} appear. Returning to the {{Term|FSA|Cave}} next to the maze, the {{Plural|FSA|Mole}} can be squashed, allowing the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} to access a {{Term|FSA|Jar}} with a {{Term|FSA|Force Fairy|link}} inside and a {{Term|FSA|Treasure Chest}}. A set of four {{Plural|FSA|Stake|link}} north of the maze can also be pressed down with the {{Plural|FSA|Magic Hammer}} to allow them to travel toward the peak.

In the next area is a large {{Term|FSA|Grass|display=Grassy}} field behind a fence, with a {{Term|FSA|Shadow Link}} leaping up and down inside it. Six {{Plural|FSA|Stake}} sit in front of a {{Term|FSA|Ladder}}. Inside the field are eleven {{Plural|FSA|Bomb Flower}}, which can be made to explode with a charged-up attack from the {{Plural|FSA|Magic Hammer}}. The {{Term|FSA|Shadow Link}} jumps to the other side of the fence when a {{Term|FSA|Links}} gets too close to him. After the first {{Term|FSA|Bomb Flower}} is blown up, the {{Term|FSA|Fire}} on the {{Term|FSA|Grass}} spreads to a {{Term|FSA|Tree Stump|link}}, which burns away to allow the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} into the field. Shortly after, the final {{Plural|FSA|Bomb Flower}} explode, cracking open a wall and revealing a {{Term|FSA|Cave}} entrance. Inside this {{Term|FSA|Cave}} is a short passageway leading to a room with a {{Term|FSA|Boomerang|link}} in it.

Progressing east beyond the {{Plural|FSA|Stake}}, the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} arrive in a rocky location with a {{Term|FSA|Hinox}} in it. This {{Term|FSA|Hinox}} must be defeated to clear four {{Plural|FSA|Blade Trap|link}} blocking the path north. At the southeasternmost point of the rocky spot the {{Term|FSA|Hinox}} stands on is a tuft of {{Term|FSA|Grass}} that can be cut to reveal a {{Term|FSA|Pit}} leading into a partially-underwater {{Term|FSA|Cave}}. This {{Term|FSA|Cave}} contains a {{Term|FSA|Crystal Switch|link}} that can be struck to reveal a platform to a {{Term|FSA|Treasure Chest}}. Underwater is a small purple {{Term|FSA|Force Gem}}.

Above the {{Plural|FSA|Blade Trap}} is another rocky spot, this one ringed by hills on the north, east and south with a {{Term|FSA|Big Switch|link}} in its center and small {{Plural|FSA|Rock}} along the ground. A {{Term|FSA|Cave}} can be found under a {{Term|FSA|Rock}} in the center-right edge of the area, containing six {{Plural|FSA|Jar}}. Another opening into a {{Term|FSA|Cave}} can be found on the center-left, leading into a room with a {{Term|FSA|Bomb Flower}} and a {{Term|FSA|Jar}}. When stood on, the {{Term|FSA|Big Switch}} summons three {{Plural|FSA|Hinox}} and blocks off the entrance the {{Plural|FSA|Links}} came through with four {{Plural|FSA|Floor Spike|link}}. Once the {{Plural|FSA|Hinox}} are killed, four {{Plural|FSA|Blade Trap}} blocking the path forward disappear.

In the lower area to the north, fifteen {{Plural|FSA|Hinox}} throw {{Plural|FSA|Boulder}} around alongside a trio of {{Plural|FSA|Deadrock}}. Two {{Term|FSA|Bomb Flower}} is located on small spots of {{Term|FSA|Grass}} on the lefts ide, and a {{Term|FSA|Sign}} and two brown {{Plural|FSA|Rock}} can be found beneath a {{Term|FSA|Ladder}} on another patch of {{Term|FSA|Grass}} on the right. The {{Term|FSA|Sign}} notifies travelers they have arrived at {{Term|FSA|Hebra's Hill}}.<ref>{{Cite|Hebra's Hill|Sign|FSA}}</ref> A {{Term|FSA|Cave}} entrance sits among the rock wall on the right. The Death Mountain Foothills are the first Stage of Death Mountain in Four Swords Adventures.[1]

Features and Overview

The Death Mountain Foothills are the Enemy-infested base of Death Mountain in northern Hyrule.[2] The visible Enemies come out in droves to attack the Links. An Old-Timer living in the Foothills has built a fire-proof Moving House in the area that the Links can use as a weapon against the onslaught of Deadrocks. One of the Old Men in the area gives advice on getting through the enchanted area known as Hebra's Hill. The area resembles Spectacle Rock of previous titles.

Once the Links arrive in the Foothills, they are greeted by the Yellow Maiden in her Fairy form. She explains to them where they are and urges them to head toward Death Mountain's peak.[2] Posted at the lowest area of the Foothills is a Sign warning Soldiers to report any sightings of the Links immediately.[3] A Cave is hidden under a large Rock nearby. It contains a small blue Force Gem and a small red Force Gem, both of which can be accessed by jumping down onto them off ledges. Both of the Force Gems are behind Blocks. A large Rock above and to the right of this Cave hides a big green Force Gem beneath it.

A forest containing two Houses can be found to the north, patrolled by Bow Soldiers with some hiding in the Grass. A fence blocks off the path north until the Soldiers are all killed. A big purple Force Gem also appears when the Soldiers are slain. The House on the left side contains four Bows and four Jars, whereas the House on the right contains four Boomerangs and four Jars.

Up from the forest is a river with a bridge crossing it. 10 small blue and 4 big red Force Gems float in between each side of the river. They can be picked up with Boomerangs. Above here is an open area with two Shadow Links standing on a ridge, each wielding a Fire Rod, who set the Grass in front of them on Fire. A Bomb Flower can be found on the right on the ground among some Grass, and another can be found on the ridge near where the left Shadow Link stands. The walls can be blown up on both sides of the ridge with the Bomb Flowers to reveal entrances to a Cave full of Holes.

The right entrance leads to a path with two Jars and a Star Tile hidden under the top Jar on it. At the end of the path sits a single Bow. Standing on the Star Tile causes a row of Blocks obstructing a set of four Eye Switches to disappear. The left entrance leads onto a path providing the Links a place to shoot the Eye Switches from. Once the Switches are shot, several tiles appear, connecting both sides and allowing the Links to exit to the north.

Outside the exit to the Cave is an area filled with Buzz Blobs. A tuft of Grass covers a Hole leading down into a Cave. Four Foot Switches can be found beneath four Jars at the bottom of the cave, triggering tiles to appear and grant the Links access to a pair of Treasure Chests. Outside of the Cave on the top left of the area, a Ladder leads up to a steep part of the Foothills with a tall Ladder in it. This Ladder brings the Links up to a high spot mostly blocked off by a big Rock with an Old Man on a ledge below. The Old Man informs the Links that near the Hinoxes is a location called Hebra's Hill, said by the local people to curse whoever enters it to be lost forever.[4] He warns them that they must focus if they want to reach the peak.[5] They can leap off the ledge next to him to land either on the right side of some fences in the Buzz Blob-infested area or next to a large Rock in between the fences containing a big purple Force Gem.

Past the fences is a maze of Rocks, more fences, and Deadrocks. On a lowered area lies the entrance to a Cave with its contents blocked by Moles.

Once the Links get past it, they enter a flat plain containing the Moving House. The front door of the House can be accessed by cutting away some Grass. Once they enter the Moving House, they are greeted by the Old-Timer in Moving House, who is celebrating his success.[6] He explains that the House is completely fireproof and made out of a special type of Wood that is tough but still light and encourages them to try moving it around.[7] He notes that it does become too heavy when Furnitures is placed inside, however, before admitting that he likes the House's empty look.[8] When pushed or pulled, its flamethrowers activate in the direction the Links are facing in, destroying Deadrocks and burning the Grass around them.

Once all the Deadrocks have been killed, four Magic Hammers appear. Returning to the Cave next to the maze, the Moles can be squashed, allowing the Links to access a Jar with a Force Fairy inside and a Treasure Chest. A set of four Stakes north of the maze can also be pressed down with the Magic Hammers to allow them to travel toward the peak.

In the next area is a large Grassy field behind a fence, with a Shadow Link leaping up and down inside it. Six Stakes sit in front of a Ladder. Inside the field are eleven Bomb Flowers, which can be made to explode with a charged-up attack from the Magic Hammers. The Shadow Link jumps to the other side of the fence when a Link gets too close to him. After the first Bomb Flower is blown up, the Fire on the Grass spreads to a Tree Stump, which burns away to allow the Links into the field. Shortly after, the final Bomb Flowers explode, cracking open a wall and revealing a Cave entrance. Inside this Cave is a short passageway leading to a room with a Boomerang in it.

Progressing east beyond the Stakes, the Links arrive in a rocky location with a Hinox in it. This Hinox must be defeated to clear four Blade Traps blocking the path north. At the southeasternmost point of the rocky spot the Hinox stands on is a tuft of Grass that can be cut to reveal a Hole leading into a partially-underwater Cave. This Cave contains a Crystal Switch that can be struck to reveal a platform to a Treasure Chest. Underwater is a small purple Force Gem.

Above the Blade Traps is another rocky spot, this one ringed by hills on the north, east and south with a Big Switch in its center and small Rocks along the ground. A Cave can be found under a Rock in the center-right edge of the area, containing six Jars. Another opening into a Cave can be found on the center-left, leading into a room with a Bomb Flower and a Jar. When stood on, the Big Switch summons three Hinoxes and blocks off the entrance the Links came through with four Floor Spike. Once the Hinoxes are killed, four Blade Traps blocking the path forward disappear.

In the lower area to the north, fifteen Hinoxes throw Boulders around alongside a trio of Deadrocks. Two Bomb Flower is located on small spots of Grass on the lefts ide, and a Sign and two brown Rocks can be found beneath a Ladder on another patch of Grass on the right. The Sign notifies travelers they have arrived at Hebra's Hill.[9] A Cave entrance sits among the rock wall on the right. Inside the Cave is a Mage with two Jars, who explains the mechanics of Medallions to the Links and offers to lend them a Quake Medallion she enchanted to handle the Hinoxes.[10] Once the Quake Medallion is used, it converts the Deadrocks and Hinoxes into Blue Zols. The brown Rocks blocking progress up the Ladder disappear once the Blue Zols have been slain.

The Links arrive in Hebra's Hill, in a location resembling Spectacle Rock, on their way up the Ladder. In order to escape the looping hill, they must take the north exit five times. They end up in a rocky plain surrounded by fences with a Chief Soldier on it. Once the Chief Soldier and his troops are defeated, a wall of four Spike disappears, allowing them to reach the end of the Foothills.
